Dr. Berry graduated from Buckeye Heaven in 1983, then
spent time in a post-doc in Wolverine Purgatory at the Population Studies
Center. She became an Aggie in 1984 and has been one through four dogs, three
cats, at least three hamsters (who can keep track?), three fish, two kids, one
spousal unit, and a mortgage. In spite of all that, she continues to be fond of
kids, dogs, cats, fish, and spouse. The
mortgage is paid. She is happy to discuss demography, statistics, methods,
urban or rural sociology with anyone, on any day, except during the Christmas
Bird Count.
More seriously, her research interests are in patterns of
migration, rural health, rural aging, and demographic change more
generally. She teaches Urban Sociology,
Social Statistics II, Social Demography and she recently published a co-edited
text on Rural Aging in 21st Century America, with Nina Glasgow. She has had the honor of being a Mortar Board
Professor; the Rural Sociological Society Excellence in Sociology recipient;
and Women and Gender Research Institute
Distinguished Professor.
