Dr. Geertsen is a specialist in the areas of sociological theory and medical sociology. Prior to coming to U.S.U. in 1972, he served as the Chief of Behavioral Sciences on the faculty of the University of Utah College of Medicine. He is a member of the American Sociological Association's Departmental Resources Group and has served as the elected national Chair of the Section on Undergraduate Education of that same organization. He is currently conducting funded research on the changing patterns of health among non-metropolitan residents with an emphasis on promoting healthy lifestyles. He teaches courses in the following areas: Contemporary Sociological Theory, Medical Sociology, Sociology of Health, and Social Deviance.
